Discuss and plan funding models to promote joint cancer stem cell projects
These last decades, fighting CSC for improving treatment efficacy, is one of the main important challenges that have to face, researchers, clinicians and industrials. This obviously involves sharing cutting-edge results, breakthrough and paradigm in the field that more and more improve our understanding of the mechanisms that regulates CSC homeostasis, plasticity, quiescence, proliferation, metabolism and their resistance to current treatments.
Gathering multidisciplinary expertise to bring CSC studies to real clinical applications
In this context, the design of innovative therapeutic strategies, involves a multidisciplinary process combining biological, chemical, clinical and industrial studies, from the discovery of druggable novel targets to the delivery of drug candidates and the proof of principle of their efficiency as anti-cancer treatments. One of the main important objectives of the SUNRiSE network is to offer to the scientist, medical and industrial community, the opportunity to meet together and to share outstanding results and point of view, in high quality and challenging discussions. For that purpose, the SUNRiSE Network scientific committee organizes every two years an international two day meeting involving numerous leaders and mentors in the field. To date, thanks to important funding from caritative associations (ARC, Ligue contre le cancer, SFC, FSSCR), institutions (ITMO, INCA, SIRIC, CNRS, INSERM, University of Montpellier, University côte d’azur, région, métropole de Montpellier et de Nice) and the sponsoring of several companies three manifestations have been organized in 2015 in Marseille, 2017 in Montpellier, in 2019 in Nice and this year in Paris (Institut Curie). Each manifestation has gathered more than 150participants from France and European countries who have attended to oral and poster presentations of innovative fundamental and translational results. To facilitate the connections with the industrial world, a thematic session is dedicated to companies developing anti-CSC strategies and to organisms involved in research patenting. SUNRiSE Meetings create therefore an ideal context favoring multidisciplinary partnerships between scientists, clinicians and industrials bringing to the highest level the debate about CSC.
The 4th SUNRiSE Meeting took place at the Institute Curie (Amphitheater Constant Burg , Paris) the 8th and 9th of June 2022.
The SUNRiSE Network aims to bring together scientists with a common interest for the cancer stem cell field in solid tumors. These scientists are currently or plan to develop research programs that will decipher the cancer stem cell biology.
